HOW WE GOT STARTED -

In the spring of 1986, we acquired our lovely foundation bitch, Scootie,  Oxfords Pride of Padraics  (Ch Scarlly’s Irish Super Star X Ch Tirvelda Tweed of Gabhantyr) . Scootie hated being shown and never did manage to get a title but her progeny have gone on to do great things. Scootie was mated to Can Ch Sardonyx Northern Lights CD and her first litter was born on January 25, 1988 and that was the start of Maronova Kennels.

Scootie was mated to Huronridge Jessie’s Johnny Reb and produced a second litter on April 17, 1990. From this litter we kept one bitch Can Ch Maronova’s Tiffany Blaze. Tiffy finished her title at 18 months. She went on to take Best of Opposite at the Irish Setter Club of Ontario Specialty in 1991 and then Best of Opposite at the Ottawa Valley All Setter Association Specialty in 1995.

In the summer of 1992, we moved from Merrickville, Ontario to Tantallon, Nova Scotia and acquired Ch Confettis Casanova,  CD (Can Ch Devlin Farfadet de Confettis (USA) X Can Ch Confettis Alizarine Fragrance) . Casey was slow to finish his title but managed to acquire 8 points while in the Maritimes and completed his championship in 1996 in Ottawa, Ontario. He completed his CD title in 1999 in 4 straight trials.  Casey continued to work as a Therapy Dog and, also in 1999 he was awarded a Priory Vote of Thanks from St. John Ambulance Therapy Dogs for over 330 hours of volunteer service.  In 2001, Casey took Veteran Male at the Irish Setter Club of Canada Specialty.  Casey left us thie summer of 2003 and he is so missed.

Tiffy was bred to Casey in 1994 and produced Maronova N Hilloch’s Easterlea owned by Hilloch Kennels. Lea was bred to Can Ch Hilloch’s Rebel With A Cause.  Thus, Ch Hilloch’s Bailey O Maronova, CD came to live with us. Bailey took the Sweepstakes Puppy Class – 6-9 months and also her regular puppy class in 1997 at the Irish Setter Club of Canada Specialty.  She completed her CD in April 2000 in 3 straight trials with two High in Class.  She completed her championship in May 2001.   Bailey has now gone to live with a wonderful family who just lost their Irish to old age.  She is delighting in being the only dog in the house and will continue to bring the Carson's the love and humor that the Irish are so noted for.

Megan (Ch Darkisle Raz L Daz L 0 Rhuzara) joined us in the summer of 2000.  She is a lovely young bitch with movement and attitude, already displaying her birdiness.  She is, what some might call, an old-fashioned Irish but is tractable and willing.  Megan qualified as a St. John Therapy Dog in May 2001 and will continue our tradition of service.  She won puppy sweeps at the Victoria Kennel Club show in spring and got 2 points at the Tyee Show earlier that month.   Megan is now a Champion, having completed her title at Kars in July, 2003.  In June 2004 Megan was mated to Devon and produced a wonderful litter of 7 boys and 5 girls.  One  of her babies is staying with us to continue in his parents' footsteps.

In 2001, we acquired Devon (Ch Russell's Devon at Maronova).   He is out of Susan Russell's Celine, Ch Russell's Celine JH and an Australian import, Catcher, Gwyndara Catch the Wind.  He has a sweet tractable nature and has already won our hearts.  At the young age of 10 months, Devon went Best of Winners at the Ottawa Show for 3 points and got his Championship title at the Kingston Show in 2003.   Devon has all his health clearances now and has sired four litters.  Devon has started his training for CD and will try the bird field next year.

Connor (Maronova's Summer Inspiration) was born in June 2004 from a mating of Devon and Megan.  He possess their wonderful nature and represents all that we love in the Irish Setter. Connor  finished his Championship in great style in August 2006.  He is now working on his obedience titles.

Sheena was born on May 31, 2006 as a result of an implant of frozen semen brought in from Australian Grand Champion Gwyndara Montpelier and Megan.  Although we only got one puppy we are very excited about this new line in Canada.

Bowdyn (Cymry Stand For Liberty) is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and came to us from Kathryn Smith, noted breeder of Vermont.  Bowdyn caught my heart and has certainly found a niche here with us.

We are a small kennel with  a relatively limited breeding program concentrating on Irish type, ability and soundness.  Maronova puppies are placed with great care. We believe that a well rounded Irish Setter that best represents the breed and encourage all our clients to enjoy a wide variety of activities with their dogs.

We have 5 huge runs and the dogs spend quality time in the house with us.  We offer limited boarding because the kennel is part of our home.  All dogs get supervised run of the house and we are able to accomodate one or two boarding dogs in a safe home eivironment.
